Difference between Naga Sadhu and Aghori Sadhu
First of all let us know what is the difference between Naga Sadhu and Aghori Sadhu. The credit for the origin of Naga Sadhus goes to Adi Shankaracharya. It is said that when Adi Shankaracharya established 4 monasteries, a group was formed to protect them which had no fear of anything and could fight in any situation. After this a group of Naga Sadhus was formed.
While the origin of Aghori Sadhu is considered to be Guru Lord Dattatreya, Aghori also worship Lord Shiva like Naga, but they also worship Mother Kali. Aghori follow Kapalika tradition. Aghoris have no fear of both death and life.
What is the worship method of Naga Sadhus?
Naga Sadhus are worshipers of Lord Shiva, they offer ashes, water and Belpatra on Shivalinga. Both fire and ashes have an important place in the worship of Nagas. Apart from this, after the Mahakumbh, Naga Sadhus go to the Himalayas, forests, caves for penance and through meditation and yoga they remain absorbed in Bhole Shankar.
What is the worship method of Aghori sadhus?
At the same time, Aghori consider Shiva as the only path to salvation. Aghori Sadhus are also worshipers of Lord Shiva and also worship Goddess Kali, but their method of worship is not like that of Naga Sadhus but is completely different. Aghori perform 3 types of sadhana, which include dead body, Shiva and cremation method. In dead body sadhana, Aghori worship by offering meat and liquor, in Shiva sadhana, they perform penance by standing on one leg on the dead body and in cremation sadhana, Aghori perform havan in the cremation ground. It is said that they also perform tantra mantras.
