Actually, under the Enemy Property Act, the Government of India can claim the properties of those who went to Pakistan after the partition in 1947. The last Nawab of Bhopal was Hamidullah Khan who had three daughters. The eldest of these daughters, Abida Sultan, went to Pakistan in 1950. At the same time, his second daughter Sajida Sultana stayed in India and married Nawab Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi here. After this she became the legal heir. Sajida Sultana’s grandson is Saif Ali Khan who has inherited a part of these properties. However, Abida Sultana’s visit to Pakistan became the focal point of the government’s claim on these properties under the Enemy Property Act.
What happened in the court?
According to reports, this dispute started in the year 2014. According to the information, the custodian of the Enemy Property Department had issued a notice to declare the properties of the Pataudi family located in Bhopal as enemy property. Saif Ali Khan challenged this notice in the High Court in 2015 and got a stay on the property. A bench of Justice Vivek Agarwal of the Madhya Pradesh High Court dismissed Saif Ali Khan’s petition on 13 December 2024. After this, the court had given him 30 days to file an appeal before the tribunal. However, Saif and any member of his family have not taken any step yet.
