Delhi Assembly News: Former Delhi CM Atishi raised the issue of removing photos of Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh in the Delhi Assembly. After this, there was a huge uproar in the House.
Delhi Assembly News: Opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi has claimed that the photos of Constitution maker Bhimrao Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh have been removed from Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s office in the Assembly. Former CM Atishi said that this exposes the anti-Dalit politics of BJP.
Leader of Opposition Atishi said, “During Arvind Kejriwal’s tenure as Chief Minister in the Delhi government, photos of Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh were put up in every government office. But today when we went to meet Delhi CM Rekha Gupta in her office in the Assembly, we saw that both the photos have been removed from the CM office, AAP strongly opposes this in the Assembly.” AAP claimed that the CM’s office now has photos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Draupadi Murmu and Mahatma Gandhi.
What did Arvind Kejriwal say?
Former Chief Minister of Delhi and National Convenor of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Arvind Kejriwal has also expressed objection to the removal of the photos. He said, “The new BJP government of Delhi has removed Baba Saheb’s photo and put up Prime Minister Modi’s photo. This is not right.
He said, “This has hurt crores of followers of Baba Saheb. I request BJP. You can put up the Prime Minister’s photo but do not remove Baba Saheb’s photo. Let his photo remain there.”
There was a huge uproar in the Delhi Assembly over the pictures. Atishi congratulated the new speaker Vijender Gupta and said that removing the pictures was insulting. AAP MLAs were also seen creating a ruckus over this. On this, Speaker Vijender Gupta said that it was a courtesy address. A political platform should not have been created. I strongly condemn Atishi’s behavior.
