Mahakumbh 2025: A petition seeking a fine of Rs 10 crore on the UP government for open defecation in Prayagraj Mahakumbh was heard in the National Green Tribunal (NGT). Expressing displeasure with the UP government, the NGT said that this is your responsibility, you should pay attention to it immediately. No reply has been filed by the UP government in this matter so far. The tribunal has reserved its decision in this matter for the time being.
At the same time, the Uttar Pradesh government said in the NGT that we have already made preparations in this matter, regarding which we will file our reply. On behalf of the UP government, the UP Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) said that we are taking necessary steps in this matter.
The NGT directed the UP government to take appropriate steps seriously in this matter and while reserving the decision said that we will pass our detailed order later.
