In fact, Ronald Reagan said in an order that now no reason will have to be given for divorce. He had issued this order while he was the Governor of California. It is said that after this order, there was a flood of people seeking divorce in America. Later, Ronald Reagan expressed regret over this order.
He had taken the decision after getting fed up with his wife
Ronald Reagan was the 40th President of America. He was elected President of America in 1981. Before becoming President, Reagan was the Governor of California. In 1959, he had issued an order here, which said that no person will have to give a reason for divorce.
Reagan took this decision because he was upset with his wife. Actually, Reagan married Jane Wyman in 1940, but their marriage did not last long. Jane Wyman falsely accused Reagan of mental cruelty in 1948 to get a divorce. Wyman was a famous Hollywood actress.
Reagan was very upset with this. Since it was mandatory to give some reason for divorce in America. In such a situation, when Reagan reached the post of Governor, he issued an order without any reason.
There was a flood of divorces after the decision
W. Badbord Wilcox writes in National Affairs Magazine – After this decision of Reagan, there was a flood of divorces in America. From 1960 to 1980, the divorce rate more than doubled. Earlier, 9 out of 1000 couples in America used to get divorced. That increased to more than 22.
Soon there were thousands of such children in America who were separated in the fight between their parents. When this created a ruckus, Reagan expressed regret. He said that the purpose of bringing this law was something else, but its result was something else.
