
An albino python about 5m long and weighing more than 90kg has just been received by the Center for Cultivation, Research and Processing of Medicinal Herbs of the Department of Logistics and Technology (Military Region 9), also known as Dong Tam Snake Farm, from a local resident, attracting many tourists to visit.
On March 2, Dong Tam Snake Farm (Binh Duc commune, Chau Thanh district, Tien Giang province) received a giant python from shrimp farmers in Tran De town, Tran De district, Soc Trang province.
This python is about 5m long and weighs more than 90kg and is identified as an albino python. This albino python was raised by locals for a long time, but due to its increasing size, the owner decided to donate it to Dong Tam Snake Farm for conservation and breeding purposes.
The albino python has the scientific name Python bivittatus, belonging to group IIB in the list of rare and endangered forest animals.
The food of this python is animals with claws, birds, chickens, ducks, mice… usually lays 12-48 eggs, incubating for 2-3 months. The lifespan of a python is about 25 years, weighing about 100kg. This is a rare animal that is domesticated as a pet.
Captain Luong Minh Hai, Deputy Head of the Medicinal Plant Cultivation Team of Dong Tam Snake Farm, said that this python was in good health when it was transported here and quickly adapted to its new living environment. This is a precious python with high value in conservation and breeding work.
The beautiful giant python quickly became the center of attention for tourists visiting Dong Tam snake farm. Many tourists spent a long time admiring, taking photos and filming to preserve memories with this special creature.
Dong Tam Snake Farm is one of the facilities for conservation and breeding of pythons and large snakes in the Mekong Delta region, playing an important role in the conservation of rare reptiles in Vietnam.
Dong Tam Snake Farm is considered a miniature “kingdom” of snakes. It currently raises and preserves thousands of snakes of more than 40 different species, including many extremely venomous and rare species. Not only famous for raising and preserving snakes, Dong Tam Snake Farm also has a treatment area for people bitten by snakes.
