On Mahashivratri, there was a fight in South Asian University (SAU) over keeping fast food and non-veg food in the same canteen. Two groups clashed with each other. There was even a fight. Both groups started accusing each other of assault. Its video has also gone viral. Let’s know what the whole matter is.
On 26 February, the holy festival of Mahashivratri was celebrated across the country. But on this occasion, a fight broke out between two student groups during fasting and eating fruits in Delhi’s South Asian University. One student group alleges that fish curry was also kept in the canteen along with fasting food, and there was a fight over removing it from there. Its video has also gone viral on social media.
One group of students says that on the occasion of Shivratri, when 110 students were fasting, we had already told the university management to keep fasting and non-veg food separately in the mess. But the mess coordinator kept non-veg and fasting food together, and there was a fight over removing it. A complaint has been given to the university management. Here, the students of the other group say that all these allegations are false. There is only one place to keep food in the mess. Therefore, fish curry was also kept nearby. But the students of the first group (those who were fasting) were asking to throw it away. Whereas, those who ate fish curry were opposing it.
Students of one group alleged that SFI activists beat up the fasting students and kept non-veg food near the fasting food. Actually, a large number of students had kept fast on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri in South Asian University (SAU). Respecting religious faith and tradition, these students had already demanded from the mess administration to arrange satvik food for them on this special day.
When the mess manager discussed this with the students, about 110 students agreed that they were fasting and wanted fasting food. Accepting this demand of the students, the university administration arranged for satvik food in one of the two messes. The students allege that even then the people associated with SFI kept non-veg in the same mess where the fasting food was kept. When the fasting students protested against this, they not only ignored their words but also started forcing them and then got into a scuffle.
What did both the groups say?
In this case, SAU student Anshul Sharma said that – One of the SFI workers first beat us up and also threw fish curry on us. Meanwhile, in this case, the students of the other group say that when the fasting students asked us to throw the fish curry, we were protesting against it. On this, they started beating us. We even threw the fish curry. Even then those people were fighting with us.
At present, a complaint has been lodged with the University Management by the students who were observing fast and a demand has been made to investigate the matter and take action against the culprits.
