New Delhi. Pakistan’s anti-corruption court has convicted former PM Imran Khanand his wife Bushra Bibi in the corruption case. Former PM Imran Khan has been sentenced to 14 years in jail. While his wife Bushra Bibi has been sentenced to seven years. Imran Khan has been fined Rs 10 lakh and his wife Rs 5 lakh. If both of them fail to pay the fine, the former Prime Minister will have to serve an additional sentence of six months and Bushra will have to serve an additional sentence of three months.
This decision was given by Anti-Corruption Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana while hearing the petition of anti-corruption agency NAB in the corruption case of about 50 billion Pakistani rupees in Al-Qadir Trust. During the hearing in the court, the team of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) led by Prosecutor General Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi was present. Apart from this, former PM Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bieber, PTI’s barrister Gauhar Khan, Shoaib Shaheen, Salman Akram Raja and other lawyers were present in the jail.
Islamabad’s Anti-Corruption Court judge Nasir Javed Rana had completed the hearing on this case on December 18 itself. He has postponed the decision in this case thrice before. As soon as the verdict was announced, the police took Bushra Bibi into custody. In the verdict, former Prime Minister Imran Khan has been convicted of corrupt conduct and misuse of power. While Bushra Bibi was found guilty of involvement in illegal activities.
The judge directed the authorities to hand over Al-Qadir Trust University to the government. After the verdict, the security of Adiala Jail has been increased. Imran Khan said that the verdict has tarnished the reputation of the judiciary. Neither I benefited in this case nor the government suffered. I do not want any relief and will face all the cases. He said that a dictator is doing all this.
The matter is related to Al Qadir Trust University. It is alleged that Imran Khan, while being the Prime Minister, along with his wife Bushra Bibi and some other PTI leaders, formed the Al-Qadir University Project Trust. Its purpose was to establish ‘Al-Qadir University’ to provide ‘quality education’ in Sohawa district Jhelum, Punjab. The address of the trust’s office is mentioned as “Bani Gala House, Islamabad”.
It is alleged that Imran and his wife illegally grabbed the land of a residential complex for this university. For this, both of them also threatened Malik Riaz, the richest person in Pakistan. It was also revealed that Imran’s wife Bushra Bibi had demanded a five-carat diamond ring. Apart from this, the former Prime Minister, his wife Bushra Bibi and other PTI leaders were also accused of causing a loss of about 50 billion Pakistani rupees to the national treasury.
