There has been a lot of improvement in the world ranking of chess world champion D Gukesh. He has reached the fourth position. His ranking in India is number 1. Gukesh recently won the World Championship title.
ukesh World Ranking: World champion D Gukesh has registered another big achievement and he has now reached the fourth position in the new FIDE rankings. With this, he has become the highest ranked chess player from India, surpassing Arjun Erigaisi. Gukesh achieved this feat on Thursday, when he defeated Vincent Keymer of Germany in the prestigious Tata Steel Tournament being held in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands. This was his second win in this tournament. This move is even more important for Gukesh as he was recently awarded India’s highest sports award, the Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna. His rating has now increased to 2784 points, while Erigaisi has slipped to the fifth position with 2779.5 points. Thus, Gukesh surpassed Erigaisi to beat him as India’s number one chess player.

Norwegian legend Magnus Carlsen continues to top the world rankings with 2832.5 points and is the undisputed world number one. He is followed by US Grandmasters Hikaru Nakamura (2802 points) and Fabiano Caruana (2798 points). For D Gukesh, this achievement is another milestone in his chess career. In December last year, he won the world title by defeating China’s Ding Liren in Singapore, which was a historic moment for him.
Second player to do so
Arjun Erigaisi had achieved the status of India’s highest ranked player in September last year. He had achieved his highest rating of 2801 points in December, making him the 15th player in the world and the second player from India to achieve a rating of 2800 points or more, the first being Viswanathan Anand. Thus, this latest achievement by Gukesh reflects his tremendous progress and dedication in the field of chess, and he looks set to achieve even greater successes in the future.
